What affects the price
Why prices vary
-
The lock
A 3-star anti-snap cylinder costs more than a 1-star one. Nightlatches and mortice deadlocks are priced separately. -
The door
uPVC, composite and wooden doors take different locks. -
The mechanism
uPVC mechanisms come in many makes and sizes, so replacements are priced on the call. -
What is included
Everything: supply, fitting and labour, confirmed on the phone before we come out.
The locks we fit
Quality locks, not cheap imports
Not all locksmiths use the same locks. Some fit cheap unbranded locks that can wear quickly and fail. We do not.
- From proper suppliersEvery lock we fit is bought from reputable, well-established UK locksmith wholesalers.
- British Standard and KitemarkedCylinders carry the BSI Kitemark to TS007, and our mortice deadlocks meet BS 3621, the standard most home insurers ask for.
- Built to lastBranded locks work smoothly for years. Cheap ones can stick, wear and fail, which means another call-out.
- One price, all-inclusiveThe lock, fitting and labour in one price, agreed on the call before we come out.
1-star or 3-star?
A Kitemarked 1-star cylinder passes British Standard tests against picking, drilling and bumping, but it needs 2-star security handles to be anti-snap. A 3-star cylinder is anti-snap on its own, so it is the one we recommend for front doors.
Are these prices for the part or the whole job?
The whole job. Every price is supplied and fitted: the lock, fitting and labour, with no hidden extras. We confirm your price on the call before we come out.
Why do you cost more than a lock from a DIY shop?
Our price includes fitting and labour, and we only fit branded, Kitemarked locks from reputable UK locksmith wholesalers. Cheap unbranded locks can wear quickly and fail.
What is the difference between a 1-star and a 3-star cylinder?
A Kitemarked 1-star cylinder passes British Standard tests against picking, drilling and bumping, but it needs 2-star security handles to be anti-snap. A 3-star cylinder is anti-snap on its own, so it is the one we recommend for front doors.
Can I get a fixed price?
Yes. Call us or send a photo of the lock and we confirm the price before anyone sets off.
Do you charge more at night?
We confirm the full price on the phone before we come out, whatever the time, and it does not change when we arrive unless you ask for extra work.
How can I pay?
Card, cash, Clearpay or Klarna when the job is done. Clearpay and Klarna: 18+, T&Cs apply.
