Local know-how
A borough of flats, from Bow to the Isle of Dogs
Almost nine in ten Tower Hamlets households live in a flat (Census 2021). That means period conversions in Bow and Bethnal Green, estates in Stepney and Poplar, warehouse lofts in Wapping and Limehouse, and towers on the Isle of Dogs.
Getting to your door often means getting into the building first, so we work with concierges, porters and managing agents every week. Inside, most flat entrance doors are fire doors with euro cylinders.
See recent crime reports for Bow, Whitechapel or Poplar on police.uk, or call the police on 101 for anything that is not an emergency.

A shared street door, then a nightlatch and mortice on each flat.
The locks we fit
Quality locks, not cheap imports
Not all locksmiths use the same locks. Some fit cheap unbranded locks that can wear quickly and fail. We do not.
- From proper suppliersEvery lock we fit is bought from reputable, well-established UK locksmith wholesalers.
- British Standard and KitemarkedCylinders carry the BSI Kitemark to TS007, and our mortice deadlocks meet BS 3621, the standard most home insurers ask for.
- Built to lastBranded locks work smoothly for years. Cheap ones can stick, wear and fail, which means another call-out.
- One price, all-inclusiveThe lock, fitting and labour in one price, agreed on the call before we come out.
Fire doors
Fire doors in Tower Hamlets blocks
Since 23 January 2023 the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 have set out how fire doors in blocks of flats are checked. This is what it means when a lock needs changing.
The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, regulation 10 (opens in a new tab)
Checks in taller blocks
In blocks over 11 metres, whoever is responsible for the building must check communal fire doors at least every three months, and try to check every flat entrance door once a year.
Keep the rating when you change a lock
A flat entrance door is usually a fire door. We fit a fire-rated cylinder and hardware so it keeps its rating.
The door must close on its own
If the closer is broken or the door will not latch, we adjust or replace the closer and the latch.
Ask before you change it
If you rent or have a lease, check with your landlord or managing agent first. We can invoice them directly.
